Texas Hold'em Poker is the most popular form of poker in the world today and is incredibly easy to learn, as explained below.

Texas Hold'em Poker is a knockout game where every player starts with the same amount of betting chips and carries on until one player has won all the chips. Once you have bet & lost all your chips then you are out of the game.

1. When everyone is seated, and before the deal, the two players immediately to the left of the dealer must post compulsory bets know as 'blinds'. The player to the dealers left posts the 'small blind' and the player to his left posts the 'large blind' which is twice the value of the small blind, this creates action on every hand. The dealers position moves round the table one place after every hand so that everyone posts the blinds the same number of times as each other.

2. Each player is dealt 2 cards face down, known as the 'hole cards' or 'pocket cards'. These are for your eyes only and should not be shown to any other players.

3. The 1st round of betting begins with the player to the left of the big blind. Players can either fold (throw their cards in), call by betting an equal amount to any previous bets or raise to an amount higher than any previous bets (at least double the previouse bet). A round of betting is completed when all remaining players have bet an equal amount into the pot.

4. Once the round of betting is complete the dealer places a burn card face down on the table and then deals the next 3 face up in the middle of the table. These are collectively known as the flop. These are all communal cards & may be used by all players to make the best 5 card poker hand.

5. There is now another round of betting, involving the remaining players. This round & all subsequent rounds begin with the first player to the left of the dealer who is still in play. A card is again burnt & the next card is placed face up in the middle of the table next to the flop. This is known as the turn card & is also a communal card.

6. Players now have 6 cards with which to make the best 5 card poker hand. Another round of betting begins & ends as before then the next card is burnt & a fifth community card is dealt face up in the middle of the table next to the turn card. This card is known as the river card & is the final community card to be dealt.

7 Remaining players now have 7 cards with which to make the best 5 card poker hand possible & one last chance to bet. After the final round of betting all remaining players left in the hand flip over their cards & the best hand wins. This is known as the showdown.

8. The player with the best hand wins all the money wagered in the pot, including the initial blind bets, and all the cards are returned to the deck, which is then shuffled. If two or more players have the same best 5 card hand then the pot is split evenly.

9. The next hand now begins with the dealer moving round one spot to the left & the blind bets once more paid in to the pot before any cards are dealt, as mentioned in point 1.
